Your Podia account comes with a free subdomain that you can customize (e.g. yourstore.podia.com).

However, if you want to use your own website instead of a podia.com subdomain -- like Sander does at learn.georegulus.com, or like Marcus does at www.videosellingbook.com, we make that easy, too! πŸ˜ƒ

Step 1: Buy a web domain

If you already have your own domain name, go ahead to Step 2.

If you don't already have a domain name, you'll need to buy one. We recommend Hover ($12.99/year for a .com) or GoDaddy, as it's both affordable and easy to manage.

If you need help with this step, just shoot us an email at [email protected]

Step 2: Add your custom domain to Podia

To set up your custom domain, just go to Site settings > Domain and enter the custom domain you'd like your Podia Site to live on.

You can either link up your root domain (e.g. www.yourdomain.com) or a subdomain (e.g. courses.yourdomain.com)

Step 3: Add a CNAME record with your domain registrar

Login to your domain registrar and add a CNAME record for the domain you plan to use on Podia.

The process will vary from registrar to registrar, but, overall, it would still be pretty similar. These are the values you should add:

Host/Name: www (if you'd like to use a root www.yourdomain.com)

courses (for a subdomain like courses.yourdomain.com - "courses" can be replaced with any word you'd like such as: academy, learn, programs, etc)

Value/Points To: domains.podia.com (do NOT change this)

Note: some registrars require a period at the end of the link being pointed to. In that case, you would enter: domains.podia.com.

Here’s how you need to configure it on some of the most popular registrars:

GoDaddy

Add a new CNAME record.

Host: www (if you'd like to use a root www.example.com)

courses (for a subdomain such as courses.example.com) ("courses" can be replaced with any word you'd like such as: academy, learn, programs, etc)

Points to: domains.podia.com (do NOT change this)

Example:

Hover

Add a new CNAME record.

Hostname: www (if you'd like to use a root www.example.com)

courses (for a subdomain such as courses.example.com) ("courses" can be replaced with any word you'd like such as: academy, learn, programs, etc)

Target Name: domains.podia.com (do NOT change this)

Example:

OVH

Add a new CNAME record.

Sub-domain: www (if you'd like to use a root www.example.com)

courses (for a subdomain such as courses.example.com) ("courses" can be replaced with any word you'd like such as: academy, learn, programs, etc)

Target Name: domains.podia.com. (do NOT change this)

Note: OVH requires a period at the end of the link being pointed to. In that, case, you would enter: domains.podia.com.

Example:

Cloudflare

Add a new CNAME record.

Name: www (if you'd like to use a root www.example.com)

courses (for a subdomain such as courses.example.com) ("courses" can be replaced with any word you'd like such as: academy, learn, programs, etc)

Target: domains.podia.com (do NOT change this)

Note: Make sure to change Proxy Status from Proxied to DNS Only

Example:

Step 4: Confirm πŸŽ‰Β

After you've created your CNAME, send us an email or live chat and include a screenshot of your DNS settings within your registrar/hosting company. We will be happy to verify if everything is correct!

Usually, your custom domain name will be ready in 24-48 hours.

P.S. even if you're using a custom domain, your Podia storefront will be safe and secure, as we provide a free SSL certificate to all Podia customers. πŸ”’

A note on custom domains connected with 'www' as the CNAME:

If you would like to have access to your site via the non-www version of your address you will need to set up a redirect or forward with your domain registrar in order to indicate that the non-www version should load the www version of your site.

For example, if you connected your custom domain to Podia with www.mysite.com, you would need to go into your domain registrar and set up a redirect for mysite.com to direct to www.mysite.com.

If your domain provider requires an IP address for a redirect or forward, we highly recommend using something like Naked SSL. It's free for a single domain and they'll provide an A record/ IP address that you can add for the redirect that will work for your Podia site! πŸ™Œ
