Issuing certificates for course completion is a great way to engage customers and make sure they receive a document after completing your online courses.

In this article, you’ll learn how to activate and customize certificates for your online courses.

Certificates overview

Customers will receive a certificate tailored from your store once they have completed all of the lessons from your online courses.

This is how your certificates will look like:

They’ll be able to view a certificate option next to their completed courses directly from the student dashboard and/or receive it via email.


Enabling certificates for course completion

Step 1: Navigate to the Products tab in the top bar and select the product you’d like to offer a certificate upon completion.

Then, click "Edit" next to the product.

Step 2: Go to the Details tab and turn on the option “Provide certificates for this course”.

Now that you have certificates enabled for your course, customers will receive via email a certificate tailored from your store once they have completed all of the lessons from your online course.

Note: Existing customers that have completed your course already should just revisit any of the lessons to receive their certificate.


Editing certificates

We will automatically generate a certificate with your site’s logo and a default message but you can customize it if you want and add your own flare! 🖼️

Here’s how to customize and edit your course certificates:

Step 1: Enable certificates for a particular course and click on “Edit”.

Step 2: You’ll get to modify all of your certificate’s details, such as Logo and custom fields for Certificate title, subtitle & more:

Step 3: You can also choose if you’d like to show completion date and a unique certificate serial number:

Once you’re done, click “Save changes”.


Previewing certificates

You can preview how your certificate will look by hitting the Preview button:

The system will show you what your certificate will look like to your customers based on the modifications you have done!


Sending a certificate email notification

By default your customers will be able to view their certificates by logging in to their student dashboard:

However, you can also automatically send them an email notification when they complete all lessons. It will include a link to view and download their certificate.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Enable certificates for a particular course and click on “Edit”.

Step 2: Turn on email sending for the certificate and make any modifications you’d like to this email:

Once you’re done, hit Save changes!
