What is a customer?

A customer is a person that has purchased/enrolled in any products or has been invited to any of your products.

Customers of your site may also be considered a subscriber if they have chosen to subscribe to receive your marketing emails.

What is a subscriber?

A subscriber is a person that has provided consent to receive your marketing emails or signed up directly via your newsletter capture form or pre-launch lists.

Why are some of my customers not subscribers?

When a user buys a product from your site they won’t be automatically subscribed to marketing emails.

We will ask them to click the checkbox next to the text reading "I accept to receive marketing emails from Site Name".

If a user hasn’t checked this specific box they won’t receive any marketing emails from you and, therefore, won’t be labeled as subscribers as well.

Why is that?

Podia does that to comply both with the CAN-SPAM Act and with the newest GDPR regulations.

The CAN-SPAM Act (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003) is a consumer protection law that establishes requirements for commercial messages and gives recipients the right to unsubscribe or opt-out of commercial and marketing emails.

It also requires that unsolicited commercial email be identified as advertising and provide recipients with a method for opting out of receiving any such email in the future.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is the toughest privacy and security law in the world. Though it was drafted and passed by the European Union (EU), it imposes obligations onto organizations anywhere, so long as they target or collect data related to people in the EU.

How can customers re-subscribe to emails?

Customers can always re-subscribe to emails directly from their student dashboard.
