Spam is an unfortunate fact of life on the Internet and mindless bots are always looking for mailing list forms to subscribe people to without their consent.

Of course, the last thing you want is people thinking that you're spamming them!

We can easily defeat these bots by giving them hard problems to solve, like selecting all the cars from a series of photos. This is exactly what Google's Recaptcha does and Podia makes it simple to turn on this protection:

What your visitors see

Unlike with some sites, your human visitors won't see any changes. No hard-to-read numbers obscured by colored lines or even the "I am not a robot" box you often see

Instead, your visitors will see your regular newsletter signup form… and nothing else! It's magic 😀

But if Recaptcha suspects they're a bot, it will ask them to solve an easy-for-humans puzzle like this:

This is a relatively new feature so we're rolling it out slowly. Here's some things you should be aware of:

  • Only the storefront email newsletter signup offers Recaptcha for now
  • Recaptcha protection is not compatible with signup forms embedded on your own website (i.e. not hosted on your Podia storefront). If you use embedded signup forms you should disable Recaptcha protection.

Have any questions about enabling Recaptcha for your account? Just click the blue chat button in the bottom right of your screen, or email us and we'll be happy to help!
