Closed captions are subtitles added to your videos to make them accessible to a wider audience.

They help individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speak another language understand your content, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all viewers.

In this article, we'll teach you how to add subtitles to your course videos.

Adding subtitles to your course videos

  1. Go to the Products page by clicking Products in the sidebar menu.

  2. Click on Edit next to the online course you'd like to add subtitles to.

Note: Subtitles can only be added to videos uploaded to online courses.

  3. Click directly on the lesson name of the video you’d like to add subtitles to open up its editing options.

  4. Select your subtitle's language using the dropdown menu and upload the subtitle file using the available field.

Note: Subtitle files must be in .VTT format. You can use a .SRT to .VTT file converter tool if your files are in .SRT format.

  5. To add subtitles in different languages, repeat the process for each language you want to include.

You can add subtitles in as many languages as you’d like. Subtitles will appear in the language they were added.

Viewing Subtitles

To view subtitles on a video, customers should click the “CC” button in the lower-right corner of the video player while the video is playing.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

My subtitle file is not uploading... HELP!

If you're having trouble uploading your subtitle files, here are a couple of things to check:

  • You have a .VTT file format

  • That your .VTT file is formatted correctly

Each individual caption should have its own timing signature. If there are two captions set to the same exact timing, the entire file will fail to upload.

Do you support .SRT files?

No, .SRT files are not supported. Podia supports .VTT files.

If you have an .SRT file, you can easily convert it to .VTT by using an online converter tool.

Will subtitles show up automatically?

No, subtitles won't show up automatically when a video is played.

To view subtitles on a video, customers should click the “CC” button in the lower-right corner of the video player while the video is playing.
