Offering a discounted first month is a great way to incentivize your customers to sign up for your community plan. In this article, we'll go over a workaround to help you accomplish just that.

Because coupons apply on every renewal, we will create a course product in tandem with a community plan with a free trial to achieve this goal.

Create an online course

For this workaround, we'll use an online course as a means of gathering the first month's payment.

Simply create a course and price it at the amount that you'd like to collect for the discounted month.

For example, if your community plan is $100/month, but you'd like to offer the first month to be discounted to $50, you would price this course product at $50.

Create a hidden community plan with a 30-day free trial

Next, you'll create a hidden community plan. This plan will only be available to folks that have the direct checkout link to it.

Share the checkout link

Once the plan is created, you will copy the direct checkout link to the hidden plan to share inside your course.

You can add this URL into a button inside a text section in your course, along with some language indicating that there is "One last step!" to finalize their registration.

And voila! Your customer will be paying that discounted price for access to the 30-day trial period!

FAQ

Will they automatically enroll into monthly billing after the trial period?

Because we do not store credit card information used for one-time purchases, the user will need to enter their payment details again at the end of their trial period to remain within the membership.

What if a customer uses PayPal to sign up?

If you have PayPal set up on your account, your customer will be able to use PayPal for the first course payment. At the end of their trial period, they will be required to go through Stripe, as community plan subscriptions are only supported by Stripe.
