Why can't I change the price of a plan in a community after I publish it?

While you can’t change the price of an existing subscription plan directly, there’s a simple workaround you can use.

If you'd like to change the price of an existing subscription plan, you can create a new subscription plan with the updated price and a similar name and/or offer.

Then, hide the old plan so new customers can’t sign up for it.

Here's a step-by-step guide.


Close your old plan

The first step is to hide and close your current subscription plan.

This will ensure visitors cannot see or join this old subscription plan. Existing members will still retain access to its content.

  1. In the sidebar menu, click on Community.

  2. Select Plans and click on “Edit” next to the plan you’d like to hide.

  3. Go to the Availability section and set your plan to Closed and Hidden.

  4. Click on Save to save your changes.


Create a new plan

After hiding and closing your old plan, you can create a new one that’s identical to the original—just with the updated price.

  1. In the sidebar menu, click Community.

  2. Click on Plans.

    To add a new plan, click on “+ New plan”.

  3. Fill in the details of your new subscription plan.

    It's a good idea to set the same settings as your old subscription plan (e.g. name, topic access, included products etc.) in the new plan.

  4. Once you're done, click on Create plan at the bottom of the page to have your new plan created.

  5. Update any links you had on your site that could be directing visitors to the old offer and replace them with the checkout link for your new plan.


FAQ

Why can't I change the price subscription plans after they're published?

This is a limitation that Stripe imposes on subscription plans where once a plan is created in Stripe, its price cannot be changed.

Can I transfer members from the old plan to the new plan?

No, members cannot be transferred from one plan to another.

They will need to manually sign up for the new plan in order to be charged the new price.
