Podia features a rich-text editor that allows you to format text and insert various types of content into the comments you leave on posts, as well as the posts you write in the communities you are a part of ✨

You'll be able to modify text, add images, files, embedded content & more!

Inserting images, files, buttons, lines, and spacing

Inserting new elements can be done by clicking on the content area to bring up our text editor options.

You can also type a single forward slash / in the text area to bring up the command menu.

The options for formatting and adding content can differ based on what you're editing.

This means you may see variations in the available features and settings when working on different parts of Podia.

With the command menu, you can either add new elements or use it to format your text.

Inserting images

From the command menu, you'll select Image under the insert menu. From there you'll be presented with a dropdown to add your file.

To add your file, you can either click to browse your device for the file or you can drag and drop it into the dropdown!

You can also add alt text and links to the these images!

Alt text (optional): This is the descriptive text that appears when you hover over an image on a website. For accessibility purposes, it is read aloud to users through screen reader software.

Links (optional): You can add hyperlinks to your images to lead to a specific URL!

Once you have added the desired file and it has uploaded, you can click on Insert to add your image to your text area.

After it is uploaded, you can hover your cursor over the image to display a formatting menu. There are options available to resize and align as well as change or delete the image:

Inserting files

Similarly to images, you will select File from the command menu.

You can browse your device for the file or drag and drop your file into the dropdown to upload. Here, you can also adjust the Displayed Name of the file, and choose whether or not to display the file icon and file size.

Once inserted, when you hover over the file, you will be given the option to choose it's alignment, change the file, or delete the file.

Inserting buttons

From the command menu, choose the Button option. On the dropdown that appears, you will be able to add a Label and a Link.

Upon hovering, you will be given the option to align, edit, and delete the button.

Inserting lines

To insert a line, simply choose the spot where you'd like the line to be added, use the forward slash / command, and then select Line from the command menu.

Inserting space between text

To insert extra spacing between text, you'll want to use shift+enter for the spacing to save & display properly. If you just hit enter, the spacing will be disregarded when saved 😊

Formatting text and adding hyperlinks

In this next section, we'll go over how to format your text and add links!

Formatting Text

There are two ways to format text in comments. The first option is found within the command menu.

You can access the command menu by using the forward slash / command and choosing your text formatting. To view your options, you can scroll past the Insert section to the Formatting section.

Here you will see the formatting options: Heading 1, Heading 2, Large text, Small text, Bullet list, Ordered list, Code block, and Block quote.

Examples of each of these options can be seen below.

To edit existing text, you can highlight to select the text you'd like to edit and a pop-up menu will appear above your text.

You will have all of the same options for formatting, with a few additional options, such as Bold, Italic, Strikeout, and Highlight.

For the highlighting option, there are four color choices: Yellow, Green, Blue, and Pink.

Adding Hyperlinks

On this same pop-up menu, you can also hyperlink text to guide your customers to another URL.

Be sure to include the full URL, including the https:// for best results!

Embedding content and videos

Podia allows you to embed content from many other services directly into the comment area. Some examples of things you can embed:

  • Videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and others

  • Tweets

  • Audio from Soundcloud

  • Presentations from Slideshare and Speakerdeck

  • Images from Instagram, Flickr, Imgur, etc.

To embed content, use the / command in the content section of your lesson to bring up the command menu.

Choose </> Embed from the dropdown, and simply paste the unique URL of the item you want to embed, then click Insert.

Note: Make sure you're using the direct URL of the video, slide, quiz, or form. Our embed option does not support embed code.

The embed should populate straight away! βœ…
