If you're experiencing issues with emails bouncing to your subscribers, this guide will help you understand why it happens and how to address it.​

What Is a Bounced Email?

A bounced email occurs when an email cannot be delivered to the recipient's inbox. This can happen for various reasons, such as:​

  • The email address is invalid or no longer in use.

  • The recipient's inbox is full.

  • The recipient's email server is down or experiencing issues.

  • Your email was marked as spam by the recipient's email provider.​

How Podia Handles Bounced Subscribers

When an email to a subscriber bounces, Podia automatically marks that subscriber as "bounced" to prevent further delivery attempts. This helps maintain your sender reputation and ensures better deliverability for your future emails.​

Managing Bounced Subscribers

To view and manage bounced subscribers in Podia:

  1. Go to the Audience tab in the sidebar menu.

  2. Apply the “Bounced” filter.

  3. Click Apply to apply the filter. You will be able to use the checkboxes next to each account to select the ones you'd like to remove or unsubscribe.

  4. Once you have selected all the accounts you'd like to remove or unsubscribe, click on the Action menu to unsubscribe or remove people.

If you believe a subscriber was marked as bounced in error, you can:​

  • Contact the subscriber to confirm their email address.

  • Manually update their email address in your Podia dashboard.

  • Reach out to Podia support for assistance.​

Tips to Reduce Email Bounces

  • Regularly Clean Your Email List: Remove inactive or invalid email addresses to maintain list hygiene.

  • Encourage Subscribers to Whitelist Your Email: Ask subscribers to add your email address to their contacts to prevent spam filtering.

  • Use Double Opt-In: Implement a confirmation step when subscribers sign up to ensure valid email addresses.​

Can I see the reason behind a specific bounce?

At this time, you would only be able to see which emails bounced, but not its reason. We hope to add this option in the future! ✉️

Can I see bounced emails for email broadcasts and email campaigns?

You will be able to see general bounce stats for broadcasts and campaigns.

Individual bounce stats are only available for email broadcasts.

Can I bulk remove subscribers?

Am I paying for bounced subscribers?

Yes. You would pay for active subscribers you have on your account, even if they bounce.

Cleaning up your audience is a great way to ensure your lists' health and ensure you are not being charged for bounced subscribers who are not receiving your emails.
