Changing your email opt-in settings

How to change your email opt-in settings and require double opt-in for email subscriptions.

Written by Rodrigo

Spambots can populate your list with illegitimate email addresses, which, if undeterred, can lead to lots of bounced emails, and even harm your sender reputation.

By using double opt-in, you ensure that every email added to your list is valid and genuinely interested in your content, as they need to confirm their subscription manually.

Turning on double opt-in for your site

Here's how to turn on double opt-in for your account:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From the Admin dashboard, click Settings > Email in the sidebar menu.

  3. Click Edit next to the Email opt-in option.

  4. From here, you can choose if you want Single opt-in or Double opt-in.

    • Don't require double opt-in: People are automatically subscribed when subscribing to emails.

    • Require double opt-in (recommended): People are sent a confirmation email before they are subscribed. People who do not confirm their email addresses will be marked with an Unconfirmed status.

If you choose to require double opt-in, people will receive an additional email after signing up with a confirmation link to verify their email address before being marked as "Subscribed" in your contacts list.

FAQs

Why don’t subscribers receive a separate double opt-in email for lead magnets?

When someone subscribes to a lead magnet (a free email delivery product), Podia does not send a separate double opt-in verification email before delivering the download.

Instead, the download email itself serves as the opt-in confirmation.

When the subscriber clicks the Download button in that email, their email address is automatically confirmed. No additional verification step is required.

At this time, it’s not possible to send a standalone opt-in confirmation email separately from the lead magnet delivery.
