Need to issue a refund?

In this article, we will teach you everything you need to know about refunding customer sales & invoices.

Refunding an invoice through Podia

Here's how to refund a purchase through Podia:

  1. From your Podia dashboard, click on Sales in the sidebar menu.

  2. Use the search bar to search for a customer/invoice ID or manually locate a specific invoice.

  3. Click on the number of the invoice you'd like to issue a refund for.

  4. Click on refund at the top right.

  5. Select the items you'd like to refund and choose if you'd like the customer to retain access or not.

If the invoice has multiple items, you can choose which ones to refund.

  6. Click on Refund purchase to complete your refund. Stripe fees will not be refunded but any Podia fees will.

Refunding a payment plan/installment

For products purchased through payment plans/installments, you'll need to refund each installment individually.

Here's how to refund payment plans:

  1. From your Podia dashboard, click on Sales in the sidebar menu and select Payment Plans.

  2. Use the search bar to search or manually locate a specific payment plan.

  3. Click on the number of the payment plan you'd like to issue a refund for.

  4. Click on "..." next to the installment you'd like to refund and select Refund.

  5. Repeat the process until you refund all of the installments you'd like.

To cancel future payments, use the process outlined here.

Partial refunds

Partial refunds need to be handled directly via Stripe/PayPal.

Login to your Stripe/PayPal account directly, search for your customer, and refund them the order from there.

Here's an article about refunding payments in Stripe.

At this time, adjusting the refunded amount on Podia is not possible, so the partial refund won't be reflected on Podia.

Refunding purchases made through PayPal

At this time, refunds for invoices paid with PayPal need to be handled through PayPal directly.

Once you've refunded the purchase via PayPal, you can click on Refund > Mark as refunded on Podia to mark your invoice as refunded.

FAQs

How do I sync a refund that I've made directly in Stripe?

At this time, there is not a way to reflect changes made in Stripe inside your Podia account.

We recommend that when possible, refunds are issued directly through Podia instead of through Stripe.

How do transaction fees work when a payment is refunded?

Stripe and PayPal have their own processes and policies when it comes to how they handle processing fees and transaction fees for refunded payments.

For Podia transaction fees: These fees are refunded to our users when a payment is refunded to one of their customers.
