Getting started with Podia Chat

Learn how to use Podia chat to engage with members and site visitors

Written by Rodrigo

Podia’s Chat feature makes it easy to connect with members and site visitors while they’re browsing your site.

You can have real-time conversations without needing any additional tools or integrations.

It’s a great way to answer questions, understand what people are looking for, provide recommendations, share files, and guide them toward the right product or plan.

All of this happens directly on your site, creating a smoother experience for both you and your audience.

Understanding the chat feature

Chat makes it easy to connect and communicate with members and site visitors. It also gives members the ability to start conversations with other members and reach out to you directly.

You and your members can start one-on-one conversations, create group chats with multiple participants, and allow site visitors to send messages directly from your site.

This makes it easy to answer questions, provide support, build relationships, and stay connected with your audience—all without needing any additional tools.

To access the Chat feature, click Chat in the sidebar menu from your home feed.

From the Chat page, you’ll see a list of your most recent conversations, along with options to start new chats, reply to existing ones, and manage ongoing conversations.

FAQs

Can Admins read member-to-member chats?

No. Chats are private, and only the participants in those conversations will be able to see them.

How can I change the colors in my Podia Chat widget?

The different colors in your Podia chat widget window are affected by the values assigned to Accent 1 and Shade 3.

  • Accent 1: The background color of your Podia chat widget icon is determined by this value.

    • Changing this color setting will also affect other areas of your site, including link and button colors in your emails, buttons in your product viewer pages, etc.

  • Shade 3: This determines the color of both text inside the Messaging window and the color of the messaging icon inside the Messaging bubble.

    • Changing this color setting will also affect other areas of your site too, including the pretitle and subtitle font colors in your Vivid and Bright color themes.

Why am I getting messages from strange names I don't recognize?

We will automatically generate a name for people who don't have an account with you.

These are randomly generated names for people who visit your site but don't have an account yet.

These auto-generated names typically include a color as the first name, and an animal or object for the last name.

Can I disable chat completely for my members?

No. At this time, chat cannot be disabled for your members.

That said, there are a couple of things you can do to prevent members from starting conversations with you or with other members:
