Podia’s Chat feature makes it easy to connect with your audience and customers while they’re browsing your site. You can chat with them in real time—no extra tools or integrations needed!

It’s a great way to engage visitors, understand their needs in context, and guide them toward the right next step. You can answer questions, share recommendations, or point them to the perfect product or plan—all without them ever leaving your site.

Accessing the Podia Chat feature

By default, when your Podia account is created, Podia Chat will be automatically enabled for everyone, and the widget will automatically show up on your site.

To access Podia Chat, click on Chat in the sidebar menu from your Podia dashboard.

From the Chat page, you’ll see a list of your most recent conversations, along with options to start new chats, reply to existing ones, and manage ongoing conversations.

Starting a new conversation

Here's how to start a new conversation:

  1. From your Chat page, click on New conversation.

  2. Select a customer from the dropdown menu or search for a customer to start a conversation with.

  3. Type in the message you want to send in the text field and hit the Send button when you're ready.

Replying to an existing conversation

You can also reply to any of your existing conversations. Here's how:

  1. From the Chat page, use the left-hand menu to locate the conversation you want to reply to and click on its name.

  2. Use the text field to write your message and hit the Send button to send it.

FAQs

How can I change the colors in my Podia Chat window?

The different colors in your Podia messaging window are affected by the values assigned to Accent 1 and Shade 3.

Accent 1: The background color of your Podia messaging icon is determined by this value.

Changing this color setting will also affect other areas of your site, including link and button colors in your emails, buttons in your product viewer pages, etc.

Shade 3: This determines the color of both text inside the Messaging window and the color of the messaging icon inside the Messaging bubble.

Changing this color setting will also affect other areas of your site too, including the pretitle and subtitle font colors in your Vivid and Bright color themes.

Why am I getting messages from strange names I don't recognize?

We will automatically generate a name for people that don't have an account with you.

These are randomly generated names for people who visit your site but don't have an account yet.

These auto-generated names typically include a color as the first name, and an animal or object for the last name.

Why can I not access the Chat page?

If the messaging link in your sidebar is grayed out and not able to be clicked, it's likely that you are a collaborator / teammate on the account.

Currently, Teammates do not have access to the messaging feature. Only the account admin is able to access this page.

How do I access messages on mobile?

Smaller screens mean that there may be some different formatting to your Chat page!

To access messages on your mobile device, you will need to click on the user's name, and then scroll down below the list to view their messages.
