Introduction to Affiliates

Affiliates are a great way to incentivize your happy customers to become advocates for you and your products.

Building an affiliate program in Podia lets you reward affiliates for referring customers to you. You can pay each affiliate a percentage or a fixed amount for every successful sale they bring in.

Affiliates use unique links to refer sales to your site. Each link contains a unique code specific to the affiliate.

When customers click on these affiliate links, a cookie is stored on their device.

This cookie tracks the referral and ensures that the sale is credited to the correct affiliate who brought in the customer.

In this guide, we'll walk you through all the steps for setting up an affiliate program on Podia.

Setting up your affiliate program

By default, your affiliate program is set to Closed. To start inviting affiliates or making it available to customers, you’ll need to update this setting and open the program.

Here's how to set up your affiliate program using Podia:

  1. From your Podia dashboard, click on Affiliates in the sidebar menu and navigate to the Settings option.

  2. By default, your affiliate program will be set to Closed. To open up your affiliate program, change the availability to Invite-only or Open:

    1. Invite-only: only existing and invited affiliates can earn commission

    2. Open: anyone invited or existing customers can earn commission

Depending on the setting you choose, customers will either be able to join your affiliate program freely or only through an invitation.

Once the program is open or set to invite-only, anyone who joins will be ready to start earning commissions.

Setting up affiliate commissions

Once your affiliate program is activated, it's time to set up commissions for your products.

You can define both default and product-specific commissions. Here's how to set up commissions for your affiliate program:

  1. From your Podia dashboard, click on Affiliates in the sidebar menu and navigate to the Settings option.

  2. Once on your Affiliate settings page, you'll see options for setting up your commissions:

    • Default commissions - Set your default commission for each sale that’s referred by an affiliate.

    • Product-specific commissions - Override your default commission for specific products.

Let's take a look at each one of the commission options:

Default commission

Set a percentage or fixed amount commission that applies to all of your products.

If no product-specific commission is set, the default commission will be used when calculating affiliate sales.

Select the option and enter the value you'd like to use as your default commission:

Product-specific commissions

You can also set commissions for specific products. These will override the default commission rates for those particular products.

What's next?

Now that your affiliate program is activated, you can move on to more advanced settings to fine-tune how it works.

From here, you’ll be able to add people to your affiliate program, set custom commission rates for specific products, and adjust your attribution window to decide how long referrals should count toward commissions.

These settings give you more control over how your program runs and how affiliates are rewarded.
