Learn how to manage profile visibility in your community

Member profiles in your community are visible to others by default, making it easy for members to discover and interact with each other.

If you prefer a more private experience, you have the option to enforce hidden profiles across your entire community. This can be helpful if you want to limit visibility and interactions between members.

Overview

By default, your members’ community profiles are public, which means other members can view their profiles and find them within your community.

Each member can choose to make their profile hidden if they prefer more privacy.

If you want to enforce privacy across your entire community, you can set all profiles to hidden in your Settings. This is useful for more private or sensitive communities where you don’t want members browsing or contacting each other.

If you set all profiles to hidden:

  • All member profiles will automatically be set to hidden

  • Members won’t be able to switch their profiles back to public

  • We’ll hide the Members tab from member accounts, so they won’t be able to browse or view other members.

  • Members won’t be able to find or start chats with other members. They'll just be able to message you and/or teammates.

Members will still see names and profile photos on posts and comments, but they won’t be able to click through or access full profiles.

Hiding all members in your community

Here's how to hide all members in your community:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From your Admin dashboard, click Settings on the sidebar menu.

  3. Click Edit next to the Hide members option.

  4. Check the box for “Hide all member profiles and members list”.

FAQs

Will members be able to make their profiles public if I hide all members from my community?

No. If you hide all member profiles and the members list, members won’t be able to make their profiles public.

During profile setup, they’ll see a message indicating the community is private, and the profile visibility option will be disabled.
