Managing profile setup for members

Learn how to enable or disable profile setup step for your members

Written by Rodrigo

Podia gives you full control over whether members go through the profile setup step, so you can customize your onboarding experience however you’d like.

In this article, we’ll show you how to enable or disable profile setup for your members.

Overview

By default, members will go through a profile setup step after signing up for your community or purchasing something on your site.

After completing their purchase, customers will be prompted to set up their profile, which determines how they appear throughout your community and other member areas.

During this step, they’ll be asked to add details such as a profile photo, a short bio, social links, and privacy preferences. All fields are optional, so it can be skipped.

Profile setup helps keep member profiles complete and engaging. If that isn’t important for your site or onboarding flow, you can easily disable the profile setup step.

If you disable the profile setup step, members will go directly from checkout to the Checkout Success page. If they’re creating a free account, they’ll be taken directly to the Home Feed.

Their profiles will only include the information they entered during checkout or the account creation step.

If you disable the profile setup step during onboarding:

  • More member profiles will have no profile photos.

  • Member profiles will automatically be set to public unless you’ve hidden all members.

  • Member profiles may appear empty.
