Setting a custom homepage for your site

Learn how to assign a different homepage to your site

Written by Rodrigo

When your Podia site is created, Podia will automatically create a homepage, which will be the root directory of your site.

However, you can set a specific page to be used as your homepage if you'd like! In this article, we'll explore setting up a different page as your site's homepage.

Setting up a custom homepage for your site

Here's how to assign a different homepage for your site:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From the Admin dashboard, click Website in the sidebar menu.

  3. Select Edit site.

  4. Click the page navigation menu in the upper left corner. The name may vary depending on the page you're currently seeing.

  5. Using the left-hand menu, navigate to your Site settings. Your site settings can be found at the bottom of your page list.

  6. Under Homepage, use the dropdown menu and select the page you'd like to use as your homepage.

    • Homepage changes you make will be active immediately; you don't have to publish your site for changes to apply.

A few things to keep in mind... 💡

  • Once you set a page as your homepage, you can't delete it or customize its URL as long as it's your homepage.

  • Pages you set as your homepage can be accessed through their specific URL or by using the root URL of your site.

  • Any page set as a homepage will always be visible, regardless of whether it's for a draft product or a hidden community.

  • If you choose a product or category page as your homepage and then delete that product or category, your site will return a "404 not found" message.

You will be prompted to select a new homepage for your site.

FAQs

If you need to delete a specific page, make sure you change the page you have assigned as the homepage of your site.

What happens if I delete a product/category that was being used as my homepage?

I have accidentally deleted a page from my site. Can I recover it?

No. Deleted pages from your site cannot be recovered.

Why does my site show a blank white page with a Join button when I visit my subdomain?

This is the default placeholder page Podia creates automatically when your account is set up. It appears at your root subdomain URL until you publish your homepage in the site builder. Go to Admin → Website → Edit site, design your homepage, then click Publish in the top-right corner. Once published, your homepage replaces the placeholder and is what visitors see.

How do I make my site builder changes appear on my live site?

Click Publish in the top-right corner of the site builder. Your live site won't update automatically when you make changes — publishing keeps your live site in sync with your site builder edits.
