Image sizes & format guidelines

Learn about our supported file sizes and types for images

Written by Rodrigo

Adding images can make all the difference when it comes to building a good-looking site and community.

This guide will help you get started with some recommendations when it comes to image sizes and formats.

Podia lets you change the width and aspect ratio of images on your site and emails.

Recommended sizes of this article are not strict rules but rather guidelines to help you get started.

Product Images

Recommended size: 1000 x 1000px

Product, events, and plan images appear in several areas of your Podia account, including sales pages and the Products/Events tab in the Home Feed.

While there isn’t a single required image size, we recommend using a 1:1 aspect ratio (square image) for the best results across your account. A recommended size is 1000 × 1000 pixels.

Notes:

  • The same recommendation applies to category images.

  • If you’re displaying a product in a banner or featured section on a site page, you can upload a separate image for that section. This image will override the default product image in that specific location.

    • For site page banners and featured sections, 16:9 images also work well. We recommend a size of 900 × 630 pixels for those placements.

Community

Home feed Banner

Recommended size: 1344x200 px

Notes:

  • On smaller screens, the left and right edges of your Home Feed banner image may be cropped. To ensure important content remains visible, we recommend keeping the main focus of your image centered.

  • Podia does not limit the height of Home Feed banner images. The full height of the image you upload will be displayed in the banner area.

    • We recommend a max height of 200px, although other heights can be used as well.

Space Images

Recommended size: 1000 x 1000px

Space images help represent your spaces visually and are displayed on the Spaces page throughout your community.

For the best results, we recommend using a 1:1 aspect ratio (square image). A recommended image size is 1000 × 1000 pixels, which provides good compatibility across different devices and areas of your account.

Website

Recommended size: 250x50 px

Make sure you remove all extra and unnecessary white spaces at the top and/or sides of your logo as well. You can crop it to ensure you’ll get the best space usage:

When it comes to uploading a logo to your site, make sure it is clear, only contains your main information, and that it contrasts well with your background.

We recommend only having your brand name as your logo as something with smaller text may be harder to see so it is best to keep it simple and easy to read.

Bio Section Image

Your "Bio" Image will depend on the type of layout you choose. Here are our recommended sizes:

Classic - 300x300 px
Minimal - 600x600 px
Modern - 460x580 px

Pro tip: You can upload just one image, and it should adjust accordingly.

If it doesn’t, make sure you use the recommended size for the specific layout of your choice.

Background Images

Recommended size: at least 1920x1080 px

Background images are optimized no matter their dimensions.

We’ll resize images to 1920 x 1080, but honor the original aspect ratio. Images must be 5MB or less.

Text, Image, and Column Sections

Recommend image sizes:
400x400 px
900x630 px
780x1185 px

There are no recommended sizes for these sections. You can use your creativity, and we should accept pretty much any images you upload!

If you’re having trouble and would like an extra hand when it comes to designing your site, here are a few different image dimensions you could use:

Blog

Featured Image & Social Image

Recommended size: 1200x630 px

The ideal size for a blog featured image is 1200 x 630 pixels. This size works well with most blog layouts and is also perfect for social media sharing.

Email

Email images

Recommended size: 640px wide

Including images in your broadcasts or campaigns adds appealing visuals to your emails, encouraging subscribers to take action and making your content more attractive.

To ensure better compatibility across various devices, we recommend using images that are 640px wide in your emails, though this isn't a strict requirement.

Any images you add to your emails will automatically adjust to match the width settings of your email. You can also adjust your email images' width directly from our email builder.

Misc

Social Media Images

Recommended size: 1200x630 px minimum

If you’re not sure how to upload a social media image, here is a step-by-step process. If it is a returning a File type not accepted error, try adjusting the size to exactly the recommendation above 👆🏻

Video Thumbnails

Common thumbnail sizes: 1920x1080 px or 1280x720 px

Thumbnails need to have the same dimensions as the video you’ve uploaded.

Common thumbnail sizes are 1920x1080 px or 1280x720 px, but make sure to match your video dimensions if you're uploading videos using different dimensions.

FAQs

What are the recommended file formats for images?

Image file extensions that work well for your site are .jpg, .png, .webp and .gif files.

If you have a different file extension, you can always use a free online conversion tool to easily convert it into one of our recommended files (Convertio is a free and easy online tool for that).

How can I reduce the size of my images?

Sometimes your image file sizes can be too big, which may cause your site to load a bit slower. We recommend keeping them at 5MB or smaller.

If you need to reduce your image size, we recommend you use TinyPNG to reduce your file sizes.

What happens if I upload a different aspect ratio for space and product images?

We’ll always try to display the entire space or product image you upload within the default square image areas used throughout your account.

If your image doesn’t use a square aspect ratio, Podia may automatically add padding or borders around it to ensure the full image is visible without being cropped. This helps preserve the entire image while fitting it into the available space.
