Locating and deleting duplicate files in your Media Library is the best way to maintain a clean media library and ensure your video limits aren’t being wasted on duplicates.

In this article, we’ll show you how to manage duplicate files in your Media Library.

Locating duplicated files

An easy way to locate duplicate files in your Media Library is by using the "Sort by" option.

Sorting files by name, length or size will help you quickly identify duplicates.

This will make files with the same name/length/size appear next to each other, making it easy to identify duplicated files in your media library.

Managing duplicated files

After identifying duplicate files in your account and deciding which ones to delete, the next step is to replace these files in your products, site, blog, or other areas.

The goal is to update all instances where duplicate files are being used, replacing them with a single file version. Once this is done, you can safely delete the duplicates.

  1. Navigate to the place where you want to replace the duplicate, e.g. replacing a video for a course lesson.

  2. In the uploader, click to reveal the options and select the Choose Media option.

  3. Type the name of the file you want to use. Since the goal is to use a single version, always select the same result (e.g., the first file that appears in the search). You can also check for timestamps to ensure this is the same file you're using.

  4. Repeat this process for all of the other instances using the same duplicated file.

  5. Head back to the Media Library and delete all of the duplicated files you've replaced.

You can confirm if this file is still being used anywhere before deleting it.

At this time viewing the places where your files are being used from the Media Library isn't supported.
