Learn how to create and customize member badges

Podia offers lots of features to help encourage member interaction, and one of those is the badge system.

In this article, we'll talk about member badges.

Overview

Badges help encourage participation and build engagement within your community.

You can use badges to highlight member roles, build trust, and recognize long-term participation.

Members can have multiple badges, giving others a clearer view of the different roles they play within your Podia.

Badges appear next to members' profiles throughout your account, making their roles and achievements easy for others to recognize.

Podia offers two types of badges:

Automatic badges

Badges automatically assigned to members based on their account age, role, etc. These are automatically attributed to a member.

Automatic badges cannot be deleted, but they can be renamed and customized.

Available automatic badges:

  • Creator - Given to the main admin of the account.

  • Assistant - Given to all of the assistants you have across your account.

  • Founder - Given to the first 10 members of your account.

  • New - This badge is given to members during their first 30 days.

  • Milestone badges - Badges attributed based on their account age.

    • 1 mo - Account age 1 month - 3 months

    • 3 mo - Account age 3 months - 6 months

    • 6 mo - Account age 6 months - 12 months

    • 1 yr - Account age 1 year - 2 years

    • 2 yr - Account age 2 years - 3 years

    • 3 yr - Account age 3 years - 4 years

Custom badges

Custom badges can be created and manually assigned to any members you choose. You can customize them to match the roles, activities, or achievements that matter within your Podia.

Use custom badges to recognize participation, add gamification to your Podia, identify different member roles, or create fun labels that appear alongside member profiles.

Creating a new badge

Here's how to create a new custom badge:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From the Admin dashboard, click Settings > Member area in the sidebar menu.

  3. Click Edit next to the Badges option.
    ​

  4. Click + New badge to add a new custom badge.
    ​

  5. Customize your custom badge details, such as:

    • Name

    • Show icon (and specify the icon you'd like to use)

    • Foreground (icon and text colors)

    • Background
      ​

  6. Click Save to create your new custom badge.
    ​

  7. Your new badge will appear under Custom badges.
    ​

Customizing badges

While badges come with default labels, you can easily rename community badges from your community settings.

Here's how to rename community badges on Podia:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From the Admin dashboard, click Settings > Member area in the sidebar menu.

  3. Click Edit next to the Badges option.
    ​

  4. Click on the badge you'd like to customize.

  5. Customize your custom badge details, such as:

    • Name

    • Show icon (and specify the icon you'd like to use)

    • Foreground (icon and text colors)

    • Background
      ​

  6. Click Save to save your changes.
    ​

  7. The updates you made to your badge will apply immediately.
    ​

Assigning badges

You can manually assign custom badges to specific contacts and remove them at any time.

Follow the steps below to assign custom badges to contacts:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. From the Admin dashboard, click Audience in the sidebar menu.

  3. Select all of the accounts you’d like to add a badge to using the checkboxes next to each one of their names. You can select a single or multiple contacts.


    You can also use the "Select all" option if you'd like to select all contacts or from a specific segment:

  4. Click on the “Actions” menu button and select “Add badges”.

  5. Enter the name of the badges you'd like to assign to the specific contacts you selected. Repeat the process to add as many badges as you'd like.

  6. When you're done adding badges, click Save to save your changes. Badges will be added to the contacts you selected.

Removing badges from contacts

Follow the steps below to remove custom badges from contacts:

  1. After selecting the contacts, click the Actions menu and choose Remove badges from the dropdown.

  2. Click the x icon next to the badges you'd like to remove.

  3. Click Save to save your changes.

FAQs

Can badges be assigned manually?

Yes. Custom badges can be assigned manually.

Can I delete badges?

Yes. Custom badges can be deleted by clicking the X icon next to the custom badge you'd like to delete.

Automatic badges cannot be deleted.

Can I remove a badge from showing next to a member profile?

Yes. You can manually remove custom badges you've added to a profile by following these steps.

Automatic badges are automatically assigned and cannot be removed from a contact's profile.

Can I change the badge icons and colors?

Yes. Badge icons and colors can be customized.

Can I rename the milestone badges?

No. Milestone badges, such as 1mo, 3mo, and 1yr, can’t be renamed. These badges are awarded automatically based on how long a member has been part of your community.

Although you can’t change their names, you can customize their appearance by changing the colors, icons, and other design settings.

Can I customize the role name for myself (the creator) or my assistants (teammates)?

Yes! You can rename both the creator and assistant badge icons.
