Understanding Discord's integration member experience

This guide covers what your members experience when using Podia's Discord integration.

Written by Rodrigo

If your audience is new to Discord, you’re in the right place. In this article, we’ll explain Podia’s Discord integration from a customer’s perspective.

Feel free to personalize this guide and share it with your customers.

Podia integrates directly with Discord, making it easy to send people who sign up for a product, event, or plan from your Podia site to any communities you might have hosted in Discord.

If customers sign up for an offer that includes access to a private Discord server, they’ll need to create a free Discord account before they can join your server and private channels.

Joining your Discord server

When customers sign up for an offer with Discord access, they’ll see banners and links to join your Discord server.

These banners and links will appear in several places. All they need to do is click on them to be directed to your Discord server.

Customers can find these banners and links in:

  • Home feed (as soon as they login)

  • Product signup confirmation email

Customers can also find the Discord join link directly from the Site menu on their home feed - in case they dismiss the Discord banner or lose the signup email.

Each link is unique, so customers need to use the specific links found in their account and emails to join your Discord server.

Logging in to Discord or creating a new Discord account

Once customers click to join the Discord server from Podia, they'll be asked to login to their Discord account or create an account (if they don't have a Discord account yet).

Once they login, they'll need to authorize Podia's Discord bot so we can fully manage their account and get them added to your Discord server.

After the authorization, customers will be redirected back to Podia and added to your Discord server.

You’ll see a welcome message posted in the #general channel for each new successful customer added.

FAQs

My customers have dismissed the Discord banner and lost the email... How can they join?

Customers can also find the Discord join link directly from the Site menu on their home feed - in case they dismiss the Discord banner or lose the signup email.

Discord user is already connected to another account

If one of your members gets the error message “Discord user is already connected to another account when they try to authorize the Podia Discord bot, it means that their Discord account is already linked to a different Podia account, even if they don’t remember doing so.

To fix this, locate the customer in your Podia Audience and delete their Podia account. Then, ask the customer to click the Discord link from their customer dashboard settings and try to login again.

The member connected a wrong Discord account... HELP!

Members can quickly change the Discord username they connected to your Podia account directly from their home feed.

Simply ask them to click the Discord option from the Site menu on their home feed to rejoin Discord with a different account.

Is the Podia bot able to manage existing Discord members?

No.

The Podia bot can only manage Discord users who are added through the bot. Unfortunately, Podia can’t identify users already in a Discord server or link them to their Podia accounts, even if the bot is authorized with the same account.

To effectively manage users in your server, they must be added through the Podia bot.
