Introduction
A sales funnel is a marketing term that describes the journey a customer takes from first discovering your offer to making a purchase.
It’s called a funnel because many people may enter at the beginning, but only some will move through each step and become customers.
There are many ways to build a sales funnel. In this article, we’ll show you how to create one where a free offer (lead magnet) introduces people to your business and guides them toward a paid offer, with optional upsells along the way.
Set up a lead magnet
A lead magnet is a free product you give to your audience in exchange for their email address.
These include digital downloads, freebies, sign-up incentives, opt-in bonuses, and so on. They go by many names, but they're all there to do the same thing: to show your worth.
One great example would be a value-driven download that encourages the reader, listener, or viewer to subscribe to your email list in exchange for extra content.
Here's how to set up a lead magnet on Podia!
Create a digital product on Podia (we recommend a download)
Upload the content to your product
Under the Pricing tab, select the Free Email Delivery option
When you're ready, click on Publish to publish your product
Customize the lead magnet sales page
After you've set your lead magnet up, it's time to customize its sales page.
From the product page, click on the "..." and select "Edit sales page" to open up Podia's Site builder.
From Podia's Site builder, click directly on the page section and make modifications using the left-hand menu. You can also add new sections by clicking on the "+" icon.
Edit and add new page sections until you are satisfied with the results!
And that's it! Your lead magnet product is now set up. Let's move on to setting up your paid offer now!
Set up your paid offer
Your paid offer is what you'll actually sell after users sign up for your lead magnet.
Podia offers a wide range of products - online courses, downloads, coaching sessions, events, bundles, etc - and any of these can become your paid offer 😊
Create a new product on Podia and upload its content.
Go to the Pricing tab and set a price for your product.
Edit the sales page for your product and include information about why people should purchase this product from you.
Once you're ready for your product to go live, click on Publish at the top right.
And that's it! Your paid offer is now fully configured 😊
Let's take a look now at how to add upsells to your paid offer!
Set up upsells
Upsells are a great way to increase the size of your orders by giving your customer a great deal on adding additional products to their purchase.
Customers will see the upsells when checking out for your paid offer, right when they’re most susceptible to buying more products from you.
From your Admin dashboard, click Edit next to the product you want to add upsells to
Navigate to the Pricing tab of your paid offer product
Scroll down until you find the Upsells area
Click on "Add upsell" and select the products you'd like to add as an upsell. You can also make modifications to the text we'll show on that page.
Set up the sales funnel behavior from free to paid product
Now that you've got both your free and paid offers (and any upsells), it's time to set up the behavior that will automatically direct customers from your free lead magnet to your paid offer.
This will ensure people who sign up for your lead magnet will see your paid offer right after their email form submission.
Navigate to the sales page of your Lead magnet product.
Click directly on the Banner page section of your page (the page section that contains the email form).
From the left-hand menu, locate the Success area.
Select the Redirect to a page option.
Choose the name of the paid offer product you've set up.
Publish the changes on your website.
And that's it! Now you have a fully functional sales funnel, and you can start sharing it with your audience!
With what we've set up, people who submit an email through your Lead Magnet offer will be automatically redirected to your paid offer and will also be presented with upsells during the checkout process!

Can I set up other redirects from my paid offers?
Not at this time! Redirects are only available for email forms (this is why you're setting one up for a lead magnet).
