Want to test your email before you finally send it to your subscribers?

Sending yourself a test email

To send yourself a test email, follow the steps below:

  1. From your home feed, click on your site name and select Admin from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on Email in the sidebar menu and choose either Broadcasts or Campaigns.

  3. Click on the email you're editing and would like to send a test email.

If you haven't created the email yet, click "New email" > ..., choose your email type, and then draft the message you want to send to your subscribers.

  4. After creating your New Email, you should see a Send test button next to your Content area:

  5. Your email will be sent to the email address connected to your Podia account and you should be able to preview how it looks before you officially send it to subscribers.

Note: Test emails are primarily designed to preview the layout of your emails and not to showcase full functionality.

Some features like name variables and files won't work in test emails. Visual styling such as background colors, fonts, and layout will render the same as the final version your subscribers receive.

FAQ

I'm not able to see name variables or files in my test emails... HELP!

I'm not receiving my test emails... What can I do?

Look in all your email folders, including spam and the Promotions tab.

Try searching for the email using its subject line and also [email protected] as a recipient.

Can I test the unsubscribe link in a test email?

No. Unsubscribe links are tied to a specific subscriber record. Since test emails aren’t sent to an actual subscriber, there’s no email address to unsubscribe. This link will result in a 404 error when testing.

Why does my test email show different colors from what I designed?

If background colors or other design elements look different in your test email, the most likely cause is dark mode on your email client. Many email apps (Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook) automatically adjust or invert colors when dark mode is active, which can make light colors appear dark or change background colors entirely.

This is not a test email limitation. Your actual subscribers will see the same color behavior based on their own email client settings. To see the intended colors, try viewing the test email with dark mode turned off.
